Inspiriation

Wow! It has been a long time since my last blog post! Along the way I just seemed to have lost focus. It has always been in the back of my mind to begin again and there just never seemed enough time in the day or enough excuses to make :) But the day has come, along with a very special friend, and I have decided to give this another go.

success at something you hate."

It's a new year and time for a fresh start. Heres to another year and a more amazing projects to come!!

The Calm (or so it seems)

So I promised myself when I started this blog that I would write or at least attempt to write everyday. I really did attempted to though, I promise! This past weekend was so hectic in my house, with our early Mother's Day celebrations with my family and then my finances birthday and Mother's Day celebrations with his family in our house yesterday, I barely got a chance to stop and sit. But complain not, I loved and enjoyed every minute of it.

My fiancé loves to grill and barbecue so he was itching to open the grill, and it was such great weather this weekend we changed our dinner plans to throw an impromptu barbecue together. When you have all your family around and some good hamburgers and hot dogs, and throw in some birthday cake to boot, how could you not have a blast!

This is a little something my sister made for the birthday boy :)
The little gift box above was made with an empty K-cups box filled with some tissue paper. She mod podged the green paper on to it and then taped the grey stripe onto it. I cut the circle and the font from the Cricut Essentials cartridge, that comes preloaded on the Expression 2. She simply used a paper piercer to make the holes and stuck the blow pops in them...all in all, I think it took her about a half hour to get it done.

That the birthday banner I made for the birthday boy

The penants were cut from the Cricut Sophisticated cartridge, the royal blue penant at 8'' and the light blue at 7''. The font was made from the Birthday Cakes cartridge.

The birthday boy and me!

All in all it was a great weekend!

And I will leave you with a quick frame I personalized for a 1st Communion frame my sister gave to her husband's nephew.

 Thanks for looking!!

One Down

Finally! I managed to finish my mothers canvas art today, I'm really hoping she likes it, because making this project meant a lot to me. We are a very small family, I am the youngest of 3 children, my older sister, Angie being 10 years older then me, and my brother, Felix, being 8 years older then me. My mom raised us as a single mom and sacrificed so much to make sure we had everything we wanted and more, but even through all that, she was always around. She ran a daycare out of our house in Brooklyn so she could be there to take us to school and sometimes even pick us up. This Mother's Day, I wanted to especially thank her for all those years of hard work she poured into us, because now as a mom, I realize how hard it really was for her to do it on her own.

The corners of the canvas each contain a grandchild's name and their date of birth. It stands to represent everything she means to us and now our children. Deric, Elena, and Angelina are my sisters children (hopefully soon we can get some family pics of them in here) and Bella is my daughter. My brother doesn't have any kids but that doesn't mean he isn't as much a part of this piece as my sister or myself. So here is the final pic :) and Happy Mother's Day MOM!!!

Being that we are celebrating Mother's Day early this year, and being that I am still working on my sisters art (remind me to NEVER wait this long to start this again!) I'm hoping I can snap a pic of my sisters after I finish :) Good night everyone!!

Crunch Time

So in the midst of trying to hurry up and finish making my Mother's Day gifts with my bright ideas I begin a blog, and not to mention it is my fiances 30th birthday this weekend, talk about ambitions. Over the past few months I've become very involved in crafting, card making and a lot of diy'ing. I've always been a scrapper, but it has evolved more into something that I consider to be my serenity, my therapy and just plain old me time. Along the way of developing my new fondness of these hobbies, I've come across many amazing blogs for women like me, by women like me. Mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, and they all find the time to hone their crafts, blog, and keep family life in order (or at least they make it seem that way in the blog world :) I have been inspired by these women to start my own blog and document along the way a lot of what goes on in my life and my crafting corner (it literally is a corner in the apartment I share with my daughter, Bella, and my fiance, Orlando, and I can't forget our fur babies, Madison and Trouble, but hey it's my corner and they all know it's off limits).

Along the way I will post pics and stories of it all, I even promise to show that not all crafts turn out to be the beautiful masterpieces we have conjured up in our heads. I have had my own fair share of "When Bad Crafts Happen to Good People" moments.

Now for the goodies. Here are some pics of some upcoming Mother's Day gifts for my mother and my sister. I have been inspired by all this subway art going around that I decided to make some on canvas for them. My moms is inspired by the meaning of "Yaya", what all the grandchildren call her, and my sisters is a set of Family Rules. Because it is my fiances birthday on Sunday, which yes, happens to be Mother's Day also, my mom and sister and I will be having Mother's Day diner on Friday, so I need to have these gifts ready ASAP.

This is my mom's canvas before all the words

And this is her canvas in the pre-poduction phase as I like to call it...the sayings and names aren't the permanent ones and I actually need to change the sizes some of the words and add some more, but basically that's it in a nutshell. :)
Also, before I end my first blog post ever!! to get to know me better, I would like to leave you with a few pics of my awesome little family. Thank you so much again for taking the time to read my blog, I hope you enjoyed the projects and I hope it inspires you to do something crafty today!!
